It does seem that you have brought this home and we do seem to remain in our spaces where our limited sphere of knowledge and control protects what we have and need and who we most care about. The vastness of the universe may be just that - too great and outside our realm of understanding. Certainly mine. I even find it difficult to ponder species that I come into daily contact with that have much more complex vision and other sensory systems. I appreciate them and will live in contentment with them as I tend my garden and my sick cat whose curiosity may have gotten the best of him, just for today I hope. Love your blogs!

Maybe we don't have to consciously agree on the values because that selection will be done by evolution and survival of the fittest. Whatever the prevailing value is that may allow us to be, say, more flexible, more trusting of relying on others, less guarded about adventuring outward, etc. or another base value that leads to other lifestyle choices/changes, would not be evident to us in the process, but only after a major or gradual change, that reveals itself upon reflection of the change and the survivors. I don't think I am explaining my thinking well, but I do think that possibly our expanded complexity of thoughts, spirituality, and values, all tempered by emotions, may help find a door to the future. But, who knows...just ruminating.

What will the necessary adaptation be that allows humans and/or other species and extraterrestrials as well to move forward into the future? Will it be a value or a lifestyle or a peculiar physical trait? Fun to ruminate on. Also, nice to think that others out there will be moving through their own evolutionary process in order to continue as well. As mom stressed near the end of her life, "We are not alone."
