As I said on the Home page, between the happy dog and the driftwood, this website is a platform for learning and discussion--for me as well as you. As a former teacher, I guess I could consider this as my classroom since I always considered my room to be a place for such to take place, and in both directions as I said. The book, Control, is the textbook, the Blog is more explanation on application of ideas in the book, and the Contact page encourages more personal communication if desired. And that takes us to the classroom discussion part where everyone can publicly discuss what I've written in the book and Blog, plus ideas and questions they may have about anything related . . . or not related.
I thought this part sounded like fun and enlightening, so here we are filling in the last link. Of course, this is another new element of the website I need to figure out and refine to meet our needs, but teachers have to be continuously learning anyway. Therefore, if you've got any suggestions along those lines, be sure to share here. I needed to have a place to start out, and this is it.
Like any forum for discussion, it's good to have some guidelines. In general, simple respect for each other's opinions and statements is expected from us all. I'll make suggestions as we go along, and you can too. If we make sure that we try to make our communication as substantiated by fact and logic as possible, that should help us keep on track. We all will be giving opinions, of course, but trying to include the reasoning behind them is an aid to staying on track.
I also envision us keeping in mind how the aspect of control is involved in what we want to say. I do believe that trying to figure out the basics of how control is involved in every decision-making situation can simplify and clarify matters significantly. Who is doing what is pretty basic; after that, the why details can get rather interesting!
There's lots of material out there in this big world to hash over, and I look forward to starting this. I realize it will take some time to get it all going, but that's OK. So, be patient and join in. Oh, these categories are just to get started and can be manipulated as needed, and suggested by you. Just find a category to start an entry, and we'll make sure it can get found. Signing up for site membership is for both the Forum and the Blog. This is also a good category for letting me know of any problems that show up with anything.
Thanks for the participation, Lance.
